Lids for Kids-Grand Rapids Preventing Bike-Related Head Injuries in Children

Grand Rapids-area families are invited to Lids for Kids-Grand Rapids, on Saturday, May 31, for a fun and educational event focused on bike safety. Children will receive a free, custom-fitted bike helmet, learn important bicycle safety tips, and enjoy family-friendly activities–all made possible by local businesses and organizations dedicated to preventing bike-related head injuries in children.

Now in its 11th year, Lids for Kids-Grand Rapids promotes bike safety and provides children with the most important tool for preventing bike-related head injuries: a properly fitted helmet.

Helmets: #1 Tool for Preventing Preventing Bike-Related Head Injuries

Research shows wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head injuries by 85%, brain injuries by 88%, and severe brain injuries by at least 75%. Yet, only about 15% of kids 14 and under wear helmets while biking. Lids for Kids is working to change that.

Since its inception, more than 14,000 bike helmets have been distributed to Michigan children through Lids for Kids events–with nearly 4,500 given away right here in Grand Rapids.
