Just like last year, the weather made the 2019 Traverse City Lids for Kids for a perfect event. The sunny skies and warm weather brought families out to F&M Park where the event took place.
Thank you to our sponsors, Sinas Dramis Law Firm, Brain Injury Association of Michigan, and AGEVIX Professional Network for making the Traverse City event possible. Also a huge shout out to the community sponsors, TCAPS, McLain Cycle & Fitness, Grand Traverse Women Magazine, Grand Traverse Construction, WTCM NewsTalk 580, and Norte Youth Cycling. Without them, the event would not have been the success it was.
Nearly 500 FREE Bike Helmets Fitted and Handed Out
Record numbers continued to show up for the 2019 Traverse City Lids for Kids event. We’re proud to say that nearly 500 local kids were fitted and received a free bike helmet, which is phenomenal considering properly fitted helmets reduce brain injuries from bicycle-related accidents by up to 85%!
In addition to the bike helmet giveaway, McLain Cycle and Fitness generously donated 21 free bikes to the lucky prize drawing winners! At the event, we gave away free bikes every 7 to 10 minutes. These bikes spanned all ages and biking experience. From toddlers first learning to ride to upper elementary kids, there was something for everybody at the event.
Norte Youth Cycling brought a bicycle course as they do every year. However, this year, they kick-started their 66-Day Champion campaign with the goal of initiating healthy habits young for local children.
